About Us
I am Robert, a Welshman originally from Pembrokeshire. In 2017, I was more than pleased to return to Wales, moving more rurally this time compared to my time in Haverfordwest and, more recently, suburban Essex. I live in the Gilfachweddog farmhouse, manage the smallholding and West Wales Retreat.
Throughout 2018, I worked with a fantastic team to bring our accommodation (Bwthyn Gilfach) to a standard that I was happy with. A standard that I felt was the perfect retreat, whatever the reason you have for visiting West Wales. Bwthyn Gilfach was, originally, a pig house attached to the end of the barn. Whilst I did toy with the name 'Ty Mochyn' (the pig house), this does not do justice to the renovation work that was undertaken in 2018. Now, the only nod to the original purpose of Bwthyn Gilfach is the salt and pepper shakers in the dining room!
Of course, as with any home, the Bwthyn is refurbished and renovated when necessary and we do close when these are taking place.
The cottage is 'upside-down' accommodation, meaning the whole of the upstairs is dedicated to a comfortable lounge area with wooden beams and original stone wall. The lounge overlooks part of the smallholding that leads down to the River Aeron and the valley opposite.
The kitchen and bathroom are modern and contain all you need in these rooms. The kitchen extends onto a large dining area overlooking the patio and the large private garden. The bedroom houses a luxurious king-sized bed.
I hope that I have thought of every possible thing that will make anyone's stay at West Wales Retreat a comfortable and enjoyable one. Now, as a proud Welshman, I want to share my piece of rural Wales.
At any time of the year, West Wales Retreat is unashamedly peaceful being off of the beaten track. Yet, Felinfach (small mill in Welsh) is a small village only minutes away with a shop and post office, the parish church St Micheals, the fantastic Vale of Aeron pub and the local Texaco garage with cash point machine.
Whether you are cycling, walking, visiting the area or just relaxing, you will expect quality, comfort and excellent customer service and this is what I am dedicated to, so please do contact me at any time.
