The Kitchen
In a small cottage, we have maximised the space provided in our refurbished kitchen, all with integrated units. For those guests wishing to cook a full meal, they will find every utensil we could think of together with plenty of workspace, an oven and hob, microwave and luxury saucepans.
A refrigerator is provided for milk, wine and vegetables and allows any local produce purchased to be kept fresh for the length of your stay in the cottage. There is also a freezer compartment.
No dishwasher is provided, though ECO washing-up liquid is provided with tea towels. Anyway, there is plenty of cutlery, crockery and glasses provided so there is no hurry to the sink after every meal.
With storage space aplenty, we really do believe that this is the ideal holiday cottage kitchen that is home from home.
The Dining Area
To maximise the space in the cottage, we have renovated the extension to the cottage to provide a dedicated dining area, overlooking the patio and valley. There is a large table and 4 chairs, all with cushions for comfort. This is independently-heated and has double-doors out to the patio for alfresco dining (weather permitting).
All of the wooden pine furniture has been upcycled by the owner and a discreet cupboard in the corner houses the washing machine, ensuring this does not impede on space in the kitchen.

The Lounge
The whole of the upstairs of the cottage is devoted to the lounge area, complete with original wooden beams. This really is the best place to enjoy valley views or watch the sheep in the field below. It is also ideal for watching the range of wildlife we enjoy at West Wales Retreat.
Or, simply, pull the curtains on a chilly evening and relax in the front of the flat-screen television and DVD player. We have also provided a range of books and DVDs for you to enjoy, though feel free to bring your own. If you enjoy one of the books or DVDs, feel free to take it when you leave, though we do ask that you try and replace it with something similar – there are plenty of charity shops where these can be picked up quite cheaply.
The Bedroom
The cosy bedroom still allows for a luxury king-size bed, two bedside storage areas, touch lighting and a full-sized wardrobe and storage area. This is independently -heated and a swish roman blind finishes the bedroom perfectly.
All bed linen is provided.
Cosy, yet extremely comfortable and we have never had a complaint yet!

The Bathroom
Whether you have been relaxing, walking or cycling, nothing beats a luxury shower. Therefore, we took this into account when refurbishing the bathroom and a walk-in shower is the feature in this room. A large ladder radiator allows towels to be warmed.
External and the Patio
If the weather allows, there is nothing better than taking food and drink onto the patio for looks down the valley. Or, on a chilly evening, switch on the outside light and enjoy the chiminea.
A rockery surrounds the patio and guests are more than welcome to water the plants in dry conditions!
We believe that we have catered for everything a couple on a rural holiday could possibly want when staying with us. Onsite EV Charging
Increasingly, we are seeing guests moving towards electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, thereby reducing their carbon footprint. Yet, the range of holiday accommodation available is often limited, as properties do not have onsite EV charge points.
In 2021, we recognised this at West Wales Retreat and Bwthyn Gilfach has a Sevadis Maxicharger (socket / untethered version, 7.4 kW Type 2) electric vehicle charge point right outside the front door with direct access to the hardstanding at the front of the cottage. Now, guests can relax in the comfort of the cottage whilst their vehicle powers up for tomorrow's travel.
We are pleased to make this charge point available to guests as we believe that doing your part for the environment should not be a barrier to enjoying this part of West Wales.
We use the Tap Electric app which we advise you to download prior to your stay. On arrival, a QR code will give you access to this charger. Note that this is the Sevadis Maxicharger Socket Version.
