Eating and Drinking

Bwthyn Gilfach has a fully-equipped kitchen that should cater for everyone and every meal. However, there are plenty of eating and drinking places very close, with some further afield.

Here are a few of the ones that we have been tried and tested and highly recommend:

The Vale of Aeron in Felinfach is 0.9 miles from the cottage and boasts hearty pub meals that are top restaurant quality. For these reasons alone, we truly recommend The Vale.

Ciliau Aeron

TyGlyn is in Ciliau Aeron and 2.5 miles from the cottage. Whilst this is a hotel and conference / wedding venue, a delicious ‘steakhouse bar’ and grill menu is available from Wednesday through to Saturday. We strongly recommend booking in advance.

Aberaeron

The nearby harbour town of Aberaeron 5 miles away on the heritage coast of Cardigan Bay offers The Cellar restaurant and bar. With a heated terrace overlooking the mouth of the River Aeron as it meets the sea, The Cellar offers a relaxed dining and drinking experience coupled with unrivalled local views of the famous harbour.

Aberaeron also boasts the famous Harbourmaster on the harbour bay. Specialising in local shellfish, fish and produce plus real ales and an extensive selection of wines, Aberaeron’s Harbourmaster is well-worth a visit and booking is highly recommended, especially at the weekend.

Lampeter

Heading towards Lampeter for 6 miles, The Falcondale is another local delight with views of the Teifi Valley. Beautiful gourmet food with breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas and dinner, we rate The Falcondale highly (and again recommend booking).

Lampeter offers a range of places to eat and drink, from restaurants to cafes to takeaways. Have a look at the Town Council's website for inspiration. Having tried most of these places in our time, it is not an unrealistic boast to say that Lampeter truly does offer a relaxed atmosphere and a warm Welsh welcome.

Further Afield

The Bosun’s Locker is in New Quay 10 miles or so away. Situated in Glanmor Terrace this is a hidden gem of a restaurant that offers breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas in a relaxed environment. Park up and find this truly delightful café in the lovely New Quay.

The Belle is in Llanllwni, just over 13 miles from Bwthyn Gilfach on the A485 southwest of Llanybydder. They are passionate about the quality of the locally-sourced produce that provides the ingredients for their wide and delicious menu. We cannot praise The Belle highly enough and recommend a trip to Llanllwni.

Y Talbot in Tregaron is worth a detour if heading back to Bwthyn Gilfach from Aberystwyth or Llanddewi Brefi (fictional home of Daffyd Thomas in the BBC comedy series Little Britain). About 15 miles away, this feature-packed inn offers a wide range of excellent quality food throughout the day, sourced from local producers. With staff largely Welsh speaking, there is definitely a Croeso on offer at Y Talbot and booking is advised, especially on the weekend.
